Google’s New Search Updates Will Emphasize Content Depth

Google announced their new updates at the end of last week, and we won’t lie; they sound pretty exciting. The main idea of these search updates is that traffic-sucking, plain SEO pages should no longer pop into your search results, and Google will do its best to train its algorithms to search content made by actual people. Not only that, but it will also take in mind the actual content of the pages suggested to you, so you’d truly find the information you were looking for and not some robot-generated SEO junk.

“We know people don’t find the content helpful if it seems like it was designed to attract clicks rather than inform readers. So starting next week for English users globally, we’re rolling out a series of improvements to Search to make it easier for people to find helpful content made by and for people. This ranking work joins a similar effort related to ranking better quality product review content over the past year, which will also receive an update. Together, these launches are part of a broader, ongoing effort to reduce low-quality content and make it easier to find content that feels authentic and useful in Search”.

To put it in other words – if you’re creating content based solely on trending search keywords, but there’s no depth of information in them, you should soon expect a great dip in traffic. That also means that some creators will have to tune up their SEO strategy according to these new changes.

However, that’s a solid bonus for the people who are looking for information. This way, all the junk sites won’t pop up in their search results, so kudos to Google for taking care of their users.

“We continually update Search to make sure we’re helping you find high-quality content. Next week, we’ll launch the “helpful content update” to tackle content that seems to have been primarily created for ranking well in search engines rather than to help or inform people. This ranking update will help make sure that unoriginal, low-quality content doesn’t rank highly in Search, and our testing has found it will especially improve results related to online education, as well as arts and entertainment, shopping, and tech-related content.”

As of now, we cannot predict how precisely these search updates will work, but if you are creating truly helpful, original, and interesting content with SEO as an afterthought and not its main goal, you should be just fine.

And that’s not all; together with these search updates, Google has also announced a change in its review ranking system.

“We know product reviews can play an important role in helping you make a decision on something to buy. Last year, we kicked off a series of updates to show more helpful, in-depth reviews based on first-hand expertise in search results.

We’ve continued to refine these systems, and in the coming weeks, we’ll roll out another update to make it even easier to find high-quality, original reviews. We’ll continue this work to make sure you find the most useful information when you’re researching a purchase on the web”.

So, it’s most likely that in-depth reviews and not some two-word summaries will get their rankings as the most informative and thus will reach the screens of more people. And, if you’re looking to include reviews on your website, you’d probably want to choose those longer ones instead of punchy one-liners.

A New App Creates Custom Viral LinkedIn Posts

LinkedIn is great! It’s a cool platform for connecting with like-minded people who have chosen similar careers to yours, and it is indispensable when you are looking for a new workplace. There’s one but – the posts. The terrible, staged, and inanimate posts that pretty much deny the ethos of social media. You know what we are talking about here, for you see them yourself every day.

However, they still get loads of attention. And if you’d like to post something that’s exactly in the vein of LinkedIn trends, there’s a new app that can help you do it. It’s called viralpostgenerator.com, and it creates trendy LinkedIn posts for you. This is how it looks:

As you can see, based on your input, an AI algorithm that has learned from thousands of Linkedin posts will create a content piece just for you. And you can even select its ‘cringe level.’ Now that’s a real treat! Here’s an example of what such a machine-generated post looks like:

Although everyone, even LinkedIn, prefers original content, these ones hit eerily close to the mark of the platform’s tone.

YouTube’s New Endeavor As A Podcast Host

The newest YouTube update, which, for now, is only available to a selected few, will allow podcast creators to feed their content straight into the platform. The users will see a new page in their apps dedicated to the podcasts, which will definitely make the search for such content that much easier. This is how it looks to those who already have access to this feature:

Another neat thing that this page solves is giving an already existing video an audio version. After all, a podcast isn’t usually watched but rather listened to. Although there’s no official statement from YouTube, they’ve confirmed that they are testing this feature:

“The podcast destination page on YouTube helps users explore new and popular podcast episodes, shows, and Creators, as well as recommend podcast content. It’s currently available in the US only.”

So, in its testing phase, the podcast page is meant for a very limited audience, but we cannot wait to learn more about it and see how it actually works once it reaches us too.
