Meta’s Newest ‘Widely Viewed Content Report’ Shows Huge Engagement With Spam
It’s time for Meta’s ‘Widely Viewed Content Report’ of Q2 2022. As usual, it shows the websites, publishers, and specific links that garnered the most reach throughout the second quarter of the year.
Here’s a refresher – Meta launched its first content report in August last year in an effort to deny a deeply-rooted belief that Facebook is somehow partial political content and amplifies its reach in its own right. That’s why the ‘Widely Viewed Content Report’ was launched to show what’s actually gaining the most attention in the app. Which is, reportedly, memes and loads of other harmless junk.
Still, the report doesn’t look very transparent with all the removed content and blocked links. But take a look yourself:
Huh, it seems like TikTok is the most viewed content on Facebook. Pretty ironic, isn’t it?
That aside, it seems like Facebook’s full of fake content, which makes up a huge part of the report. But, unfortunately, the other part isn’t so bright, either. Although Meta tries to prove the point that they are being politically impartial, oddly, most of the links are, in fact, very political.
So, did Meta prove that Facebook isn’t the evil plenty of its users think it to be? Well, not exactly – the report is highly inconclusive and, in essence, tells us nothing else but the fact that many of its users engage with various forms of junk posting.
Reels Are Taking Center Stage By Generating The Most Reach
Now, it isn’t news that Instagram is pushing video content as the most important form of content on its app. But just how important is it actually?
Here’s the newest chart from HypeAuditor that provides some detail:
- What HypeAuditor did was analyze 77.6 mln posts made by 13.6 million global Instagram influencers throughout July 2022. That, of course, gave some very nice and detailed information about the most popular forms of content:
- The most popular form of content throughout July was still image posts taking up 42.2% of all content. Carousel posts took a notable second place with 26.2% of posts;
- Reels take third place with 22.1% of content posted by Instagram influencers;
- However, Reels won the audiences with the number of received Likes (35.4%) and Estimated Reach (33.8%).
This intel shows that Instagram is definitely prioritizing Reels, and you should be too for maximum reach and engagement in the app. The funny thing is that the data also showed that only 5.7M of influencers did post Reels throughout the month of July, which is less than half of analyzed creators, with 59% missing the chance to get better reach and engagement. So, you should probably try Reels now if you haven’t already.
TikTok Is Testing A New ‘Nearby’ Feed
It’s official – TikTok is testing its newest content feed called ‘Nearby’ in addition to the already existing ‘For You’ and ‘Following’ tabs. And just like the name suggests, this ‘Nearby’ feed will show you locally relevant updates on places of interest, restaurants, shops, and businesses.
And it might be huge for local brands.
Although the details on this feed are pretty limited for now, in the best-case scenario, it might give brands tons of engaged users who are actually nearby and willing to visit your business. Bear in mind that according to Google, almost 40% of young people rely on TikTok and Instagram when searching for places to eat and visit. So, in short – the ‘Nearby’ feed might be an excellent opportunity to gain followers and consumers.
So, although TikTok has barely started this experiment and isn’t willing to disclose any further information, this additional tab might become a very exciting marketing tool. We’ll see.
