Twitter’s ‘Hashfetti’ Effect For Branded Hashtag Campaigns

While there are dozens of new implementations and changes done on the app recently, there are also some fun little things happening, too.

Take, for instance, this fun new update called ‘Hashfetti,’ which will flood the screen with the respective graphic when users tap the branded tag.

Take a look at the screenshot below or watch the presentation here.

Now, this isn’t a major update per se, but it could add a new level of interaction, rendering Twitter’s Branded Hashtag campaigns even more exciting.

The ‘Hashfetti’ project itself was developed last year, and here’s what Twitter’s Leah Culver has to say about it:

“For Hack Week 2022, [we] assembled a team to build a fun feature for Twitter advertisers as an upsell to branded hashtags… and we won. Shipping this feature would only take a week of engineering work, and so I was certain we would be able to get it done… and yeah, that didn’t happen. We got a lot of “NO” for not very good reasons. When Elon Musk took over at Twitter, we saw our chance.”

So while the ‘Hashfetti’ isn’t a groundbreaking update, it is a nice supplement to the branded hashtags effort, which seems to be already gaining speed. Treat it as another element to enhance resonance and make your promotions stand out in the app.

By the way, if you’re interested in just how well the branded hashtags are performing, here’s a tiny little infographic provided by Twitter:

TikTok’s New IMDb-Powered Movie And TV Series Tags

TikTok is adding a new option that will allow people to tag movies and TV series in their uploads, linking the tags with corresponding IMDb pages and allowing users to gather more information on the posted content.

And with uploads under #FilmTok, #MovieTok, and #TVTok having a combined 25 billion views in the app, providing more context for such uploads might be beneficial for both the users and film production groups.

Here’s what it is going to look like:

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN REACH 350% SHORTER CAMPAIGN INITIATION PHASE

And this is how it is going to work: users will be able to select a movie or TV series to link it to TikTok uploads with the tag displayed above the video caption. The tag, when clicked on, will redirect users to a dedicated page on TikTok, which will display basic info about that content, sourced directly from IMDb, including release date, cast, and more.

Users will also have the option to go further into the IMDb page itself, essentially bookmarking the movie or TV series to be watched later. Additionally, these tags will also allow users to find other TikTok videos that have used the same movie or series, too.

This might be a good way for TikTok to lean into the popularity of trending movies and TV shows while also providing a direct promotion of the source material. Because now, without the tags, determining where a random lip comes from might be a bit of a task.

The update will roll out first in the US and UK before being expanded to other regions.
